The Trump Accounts App Is Live — Here’s What Parents Should Know
If you’ve been following the rollout of the Trump Accounts, there’s a major update: the official Trump Accounts app is now live nationwide.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the launch on May 28, 2026, and families who have already enrolled their children in the program will begin receiving account activation instructions ahead of the official July 4 launch date.
If you’re wondering what this means for your family, here’s a breakdown.
First Things First: The App Doesn’t Automatically Create an Account
We’ve already had questions from parents who assumed downloading the new app would automatically create a Trump Account for their child. It doesn’t. The app is designed to help families activate and manage accounts that have already been established through the enrollment process.
If you’ve already submitted IRS Form 4547 (Trump Account Election), you’ll be among the first families receiving activation instructions. However, if you didn’t elect a Trump Account with your tax return, you may still have options. We’ve recently learned that eligible taxpayers with an IRS online account may be able to establish a Trump Account through that platform as the program continues rolling out.
What Happens If You’ve Already Signed Up?
According to the Treasury Department, activation emails are being sent in phases between now and July 4, 2026. It's important to note that only one taxpayer can be designated as the responsible party for a child's Trump Account. The taxpayer listed as the responsible party on the election form will be the person who receives the activation email and will be responsible for completing the account setup process.
The email will:
Confirm that your child's Trump Account election was processed
Provide instructions for completing account activation
Direct you to finish setup through the official Trump Accounts app or website
Once activated, you'll be ready for the next phase of the program when contributions officially begin on July 4.
What To Expect On July 4
Beginning July 4, 2026:
Trump Accounts can begin accepting eligible contributions from parents, family members, employers, charitable organizations, and other approved contributors
Eligible children enrolled in the pilot program will begin receiving the government's $1,000 contribution directly into their account
Families will be able to manage accounts through the app and online portal
As we discussed in our previous blog about Trump Accounts, the pilot program can provide a meaningful head start for eligible children. Depending on eligibility and available incentives, some families could see substantial initial contributions deposited before they contribute a dollar of their own.
Be Careful — Scammers Will Follow the Headlines
Any time a government program receives national attention, scammers aren’t far behind. Treasury officials have already issued warnings and provided guidance for families.
Legitimate activation emails will only come from no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov. Treasury will not call you, text you, or ask for activation information over the phone. If someone contacts you claiming they can help activate your child’s account through a phone call or text, treat it as suspicious.
The safest approach is to access your account only though the official app or by typing the website address directly into your browser.
What To Do If You Haven’t Signed Up Yet
Don’t panic. While many families elected to participate when filing their tax returns, there are still ways to open a Trump Account if you decide you’d like to participate.
If your tax return has not yet been filed, we generally recommend making the election with your tax return. This allows the election to be submitted electronically and can help streamline the process.
If your tax return has already been filed, you may still have options. We’ve recently learned that eligible taxpayers with an IRS online account may be able to establish a Trump Account through that platform. Families can also submit a paper election form if they did not originally elect to participate and later changed their minds.
As the program continues to roll out, enrollment procedures may continue to evolve. If you’re unsure which option applies to your situation, we’re happy to help you navigate through the process.
After all, we're not just your tax accountants. We're people who genuinely care about your family's financial well-being.
